Preview: Heat vs. Pistons (April 5, 2016)

The Miami Heat return home tonight to face off against the Detroit Pistons! In what should be a tight contest between two playoff teams, the Heat look to get their first win against Detroit this season. The Heat have struggled in their games with Detroit so far, but have improved over the second half of the season thanks to a newly-found pace and the resurgence of key players.

This is a very important game for Miami. It is a confidence booster to beat a playoff team and a way to get themselves ahead of Charlotte, Atlanta, and Boston in the race for third i the East. They have the easiest remaining schedule of the four teams, as this is probably their toughest game down the stretch.  So here the 3 keys/things to watch in tonight’s game.

  1. Give Wade the ball: Wade has struggled in the two previous meetings with Detroit, so he needs to get back on track heading into the postseason. He should be able to dominate Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and make an impact on this game.
  2. Whiteside vs. Drummond: They are two of the league’s best centers, and even though Whiteside comes off the bench, he plays a majority of the minutes for the center spot. This matchup will be a good one as the league’s best rebounder faces off  against the league’s best shot-blocker. Whiteside needs to win that battle and keep him off the glass.
  3. Make them play defense: Detroit is not a very good defensive team, but their ability to rebound gets rid of opponent possessions. The Heat need to attack the Pistons, and it starts with Dragic attacking Reggie Jackson. Dragic has to be looking to attack him and then go at Drummond, who will look to stay out of foul trouble. Making him commit will open up Stoudemire and Whiteside in the middle as well as shooters like Johnson and Richardson outside.

This should be a very fun game to watch and will hopefully have a playoff atmosphere to go with it.

GO HEAT!
